Spring has Sprung
I think it's officially spring in Washington, specifically demarcated by the arrival of the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin and in other parts of the city. Mr. Boyfriend and I went to see them on Saturday, and it was fun to get outside (on the second of three gorgeous days in a row). There were tons of people out, including a wedding party getting their pictures taken, which reminded me of one of my favorite features of seasons: people take advantage of the nice weather. I will continue to take advantage of it as well.
I think the thing that has struck me the most about it, though, is how pale the blossoms are. I was expecting more of a riotous burst of color on the trees (sort of like fall, but in spring). Instead, there is pink and pale pink. We saw the sun set from the Jefferson Memorial and it looked a little out of place -- somehow too bright, and too brilliant.
College basketball has passed me by this year without completely drawing me in. I'm out of both of my pools because in one I picked North Carolina (stupid Roy Williams affinity) and in the other I picked Stanford (which I stand behind but wish the outcome was different). There's roughly five months until the Madden issue of Sports Illustrated.
My crazy travel begins in two weeks: I'm off to Atlanta for two weekends in a row!

Two Cup Day
Is there ever going to be a good time to sleep? Maybe if I didn't ALWAYS think it was more interesting to hang out with people. Old college friend Cindy has just moved to the area, and I was able to spend some time with her last night for the first time since she arrived. Unfortunately, it cut into my sleep a little bit and I had to get up early to take my car to the shop this morning, so there is lots of coffee in my present.
Office happy hour was great last night, and just as hilarious as I wanted it to be. I'm consistently surprised by how much I like the people who I work with. This company could definitely be it's own reality TV show, complete with awkward confrontations and behind-the-scenes chicanery. One thing I'm noticing about this life we lead is how important the aftermath of anything is. I used to fear that dramatic events were self-contained (in a TV show sort of way), but it's really how you deal with whatever happens. And that's pretty neat.
For me, this weekend holds a little Jack Black and a whole lot of car stuff. My Camry has to take it's emissions test this weekend, and if it passes it might get a bath. And, I'm going to run just as far as I can outside.

Fat Guy in A Rain Coat
I think that spring has sprung. I definitely did not take a coat to work yesterday at all. Today I have my raincoat, but I don't think I'm going to need it. I know that I might be ruffling the feathers of the weather gods (or is it just the groundhog now) by saying this, and it will probably snow tomorrow. However, the forecast is for sunshine and 70, so I'm going to hope for that.
I did hear on the radio this morning that it's supposed to be a rainy spring, which is not so exciting. I'm having unpleasant flashbacks of that first summer in Boston (2000), when it rained so much I didn't even see the sun for weeks at a time. That was hard for a SoCal girl, but I much prefer the rain to the snow (because the other part of being a SoCal girl was that there was a drought going on for pretty much all of the 12 years I was there. There was no playing in the sprinklers or walking on the grass, because the water was too valuable).
The real reason that I haven't been blogging very much is that I've started dating someone new and he's taking up lots of my time. We've been doing lots of fun stuff, but mostly just talking and talking. He has gotten me hooked on Sports Night, which is the Aaron Sorkin creation before The West Wing. Sports Night is great. I'm officially a fan (as lots of you will be, but particularly Jessica and Kristin). My days and weeks are not long enough now.
Elizabeth and I went to get ice cream for lunch yesterday, and we saw someone who had just gotten shot. He tried to rob a bank on 15th street in the middle of lunch hour, and the security guard took him out. He was still alive. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting with my ice cream.
I have a Happy Hour with work tonight. Is it possible that I've been at this job for seven months? And I've been in the DC-Metro area for nine? At this time last year I was in Dallas waiting tables at Snuffer's and working in Rael's flower shop.
